Beware of this BOOK!

If you have children or grandchildren, work with children at church, or if you have neighborhood children whose parents you know, please take note of the information below and pass it a long to others. Schools are distributing this book to children through the Scholastic Book Club. Beware of this book! The name of the book is Conversations with God... It is devastating. Parents, churches and Christian schools need to be aware of it. Please pass this information on to church/e-mail addressees, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, friends. Please pay special attention not only to what your kids watch on TV, in movie theaters, on the internet, and the music they listen to, but also be alert regarding the books they read. Two particular books are, Conversations with God and Conversations with God for Teens, written by Neale D. Walsch. They sound harmless enough by their titles alone. The books have been on the New York Times best sellers list for a number of weeks, and they make truth of the statement, 'Don't judge a book by its cover (or title) The author purports to answer various questions asked by kids using the 'voice of God'. However, the 'answers' that he gives are not Bible-based and go against the very infallible word of God. For instance (and I paraphrase), when a girl asks the question 'Why am I a lesbian?' His answer is that she was 'born that way' because of genetics (just as you were born right-handed, with brown eyes, etc.). Then he tells her to go out and 'celebrate' her differences. Another girls poses the question 'I am living with my boyfriend. My parents say that I should marry him because I am living in sin. Should I marry him?' His reply is, 'Who are you sinning against? Not me, because you have done nothing wrong.' Another question asks about God's forgiveness of sin. His reply 'I do not forgive anyone because there is nothing to forgive. There is no such thing as right or wrong and that is what I have been trying to tell everyone, do not judge people. People have chosen to judge one another and this is wrong, because the rule is ''judge not lest ye be judged.' Not only are these books the false doctrine of the devil, but in some instances quote (in error) the Word of God. And the list goes on. These books (and others like it) are being sold to schoolchildren through (The Scholastic Book Club), and we need to be aware of what is being fed to our children. Our children are under attack. So I pray that you be sober and vigilant about teaching your children the Word of God, and guarding their exposure to worldly mediums, because our adversary, the devil, roams about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). We know that lions usually hunt for the slowest, weakest and YOUNGEST of its prey. Pass this on to every Believer you know. God bless! And, if you are in doubt, check out the books yourself. Original post By: A friend of a friend of my moms. However, cuz the post interested me, I decided to do a little research of my own and I pulled a couple quotes to see where this false "prophet" got his inspiration. Here's a quote from his own website. "Neale's mother hardly ever went to church, and when he asked her why, she told Neale, "I don't have to go to church-God comes to me. He's with me and around me wherever I am." This view of God in his childhood would open Neale fully as an adult to transcend the traditional views of organized religion and bring to the world the message found in Conversations with God." In another section of his bio, it explained his supposed divine conversation with God..."Neale says that he heard a voice, soft and kind, warm and loving, that gave him an answer to this and other questions. Awestruck and inspired, he quickly scribbled these responses onto the tablet. More questions came, and, as fast as they occurred to him, answers were given in the same soft voice, which now seemed placed inside his head. Before he knew it, Neale found himself engaged in a two-way on-paper dialogue. He continued this first "conversation" for hours, and had many more in the weeks that followed, always awakening in the middle of the night and being drawn back to his legal pad. Neale's handwritten notes would later become the best-selling Conversations with God books." Of course the bible makes it clear that God now speaks through HIS word and that by THAT word we will be judged. (John 12:48) Anywhoo, just another day jotting down thangs and living life! Peace yawl, SPEECH

Hey Speech!

Thanks so much for this info. I have heard of this and checked it out and I will pass this along! There are so many books out there that have this kind of info in it, and people take it word for word!

I wonder have you read the book, The Shack? I just got thru reading it and while I think it has some good examples of faith, the problem I had with it was some of the analogies of this guy sitting actually talking to GOD. The bible is clear that people could not even talk to God without some kind of physical effect happening to them. (ie, moses, abraham etc...) just food for thought.

It is so wonderful to hear parents keeping check on their kids in public school and private too! I remember talking to your wife Yolanta (hope i spelled her name right) when we all might at Life college together about homeschooling. She had said you all were thinking about it. WE have been for years. Our oldest two are 21 and 20 and in college now and we still have a 13 year old son at home. Our kids were able to graduate early from highschool and head on into college. I think homeschooling prepares them better, just my opinion. But I understand not everyone can do it for various reasons.
Our daughter Brianna mentioned to us the other day when you called her and she was in the 3rd grade and you talked to her about the music industry and recording music. Well today she is at Kennesaw state, almost a junior and majoring in communication/ broadcasting and has been an intern at Q100 for two years now. She is on the radio Tuesday and Thurdsday nights 7-10 with the Adam Bomb show! She is Bri Bri. I really think your call to her that day inspired her in so many ways!

So thanks for the example you set as an artist with convictions and as a christian. (Now if I could only convince you to become a republican or libertarian!)lol!

I will pass this info along!
God Bless and much love!

Wow.
The inflexibility of the Believer and the close mindedness of fundamentalism are the problem. Not a harmless dialogue with one's divine source.
I was all for supporting you guys till you put this rubbish out there.
This belief system will keep war alive and well. Good job.
And now, you must be deleted.

Hi Latrelle,

How is this inflexible? And why is this rubbish? It seems by your deleting of me as a friend, that you are more inflexible than I.

If the belief system you refer to is Christianity, then let me tell you that Jesus is against war, he tells us to turn the other cheek.
If you are wondering if my post is meant to stir up intolerance, then I can assure you that it is not! I love all people, and yet not as much as GOD does. And still God doesn't approve of everyones lifestyles and views, and that is what is deceiving about this book!

I know your a Christan... but please tell me your not one of these narrow minded zealots, who like to instill nothing but fear and judgment into our youth. I may have read this wrong in coming to that conclusion...and that's my hope. I will not support a book burner. I cannot stand paranoid people like this person who wrote this because I grew up around it. Thankfully, I was never a drone, it didn't take. That and my parents taught me to have respect for every one's uniqueness. What ever this author had written, it doesn't look to me like anything to be taken so offensively. The examples that your mom's friend gives do not sound like things people should be so afraid of. If you parent your children wisely, raise them to be tolerant of others differences, and to have faith in their religion or beliefs, it stands to reason that there is no reason for them to even be effected by such writings. If anything it may open children up to having specific questions for their parents about such matters. I mean god forbid we actually engage the minds of our children to think out side the box. I really hope you were using this as an example and not for something you condone. I'd be really disappointed in you.

Hi Lisa,

Disappointed? I'm not sure why?
I do condone the post, yet, I don't think this post represents a book burning at all. It actually suggests that people read it for themselves if they need to validation for the reports implied.
More clearly, this post is to those who are in search of God, and may be fooled by the title of the book into believing that this actually represents God's views on various issues.

Being tolerant, and saying that God says this is alright is TWO DIFFERENT THINGS.

I am tolerant and understand that all people can choose their own lifestyle. But saying that whatever lifestyle you choose is agreeable by God is ludicrous!
As far as thinking outside of the box, I'm all for that. Especially if the box is that man has all the answers and there is no need for God in our lives.

Speech,

Dude, I totally understand your misgivings for this book and you have the right to not like it. Heck I've never read it and it sounds not worth the time.
However, you shocked me with your paraphrased line from the lesbian girl. Man, I thought you were about tolerance in general. My mistake, i guess you only apply it to race and social differences. Homosexuality is not worthy of tolerance and addressing. The bible says it is a sin therefore, it is a choice. Your belief in the infallible word of God is well founded but the Bible was written by fallible men.
Man, I respect you still and will always listen to AD and your amazing lyrics, but today you've sorely disappointed me.

Hey Trevino,

Just to be clear, I am about tolerance. Now, if you mean that for me to be tolerant then I have to agree with homosexuality being OK with God, even though I KNOW that it's not. I love all humanity (of course, not as much as God does), yet God as our creator yearns to help all of us come back to him and His will for our lives. Some of HIS will requires changes in all of us, that goe against our "natural" inclinations.
I understand that, as much as any one else.

Why wouldn't a young lesbian be encouraged to go out and celebrate her differences? Should the alternative be to tell her that something is wrong with her and should never express her true self? Should she continue a life of suffering and unhappiness? That is not something any parent should encourage in their children.

Anonymous said...

Hey Eric,

I think a parent should do what they think is best. And I believe in celebrating differences and tolerance. Yet, the danger of that book is the claim that these "answers" come from God! Eric, we all have things in our lives that we choose to do or are inclined to do, but God yearns to teach us why He created us in the first place.

Hi, I was just reading your bulletin about that book being made available to kids in schoolbook programs and read though the passages in it you were troubled by.

I’m not very religious myself (was raised a Catholic though, and my Grandfather is a Baptist minister) but religion still really interests me and I don’t mean to be rude,
but why are you against these passages were pointed out?
I was taken back a little by the whole tone of the article and I was just wondering what your views were, such as the passage on the girl asking why she was a lesbian, do you believe that being gay or lesbian is wrong or do you believe that it has nothing to do with genetics or that kids shouldn’t be reading this stuff at such an early age, or are you against the authors entire concept of the book?

I just wanted to clear that kinda thing up and I’m genuinely interested in what kinda Christianity you practice (also your views on the subject wouldn’t have any impact on my perception of you though, I tend to respect all peoples opinions on things).

Also, Im a fan of your music by the way Michael

Anonymous said...

Hey Michael,

first off, thank you for supporting the music! It really means a lot to me and my family!! Again thanks!

The part of the book that is dangerous is the premise that those "answers" are from God!

It's fine for PEOPLE to have their own views on various issues, and lifestyles, but there are a great number of people that are honestly searching for God and what HE wants for their lives. And when it comes to that, this book is harmful. It's like someone saying Michael believes this & that, when in truth it is NOT what you believe. Feel me?
I am tolerant and love all people, and yet not nearly as much as God does! And still God has his purpose for us all and those who want to live that purpose, have to really know Him.

So what you are saying is that God speaks only through the Bible? That his only words are spoken through the bible? last time i checked, the bible was written by a bunch of different men. God speaks to me every day, all day. If his only mandate is through the Bible, then the Bible lies. Who do the Christians of the world think they are, judging people by what they do or who they are. The whole idea presented (more than once) in the Bible is to Love. The ultimate entity of the world is to Love. Do everything with love and care. Judging me because I am a lesbian does NOT make you a better person. it will only bring judgement onto yourself by the Ultimate. I am a creation molded by the very hands of God himself. Judging and criticizing me is judging and criticizing the Almighty. I wouldn't want to be you on the day you die when you have to face God (because we all must face this day).

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
1 John 4:8

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. – 1 John 4:9-11

Could you die for the Hindus, or the Budhists, or the Muslims?
Even yet, Could you die for homosexuals, drug addicts, or murderers?
I know it's hard to believe, but God does not love you more than he loves Ellen DeGeneres, or Neale.

There are two sides to the universe. Good and Bad.There is NO middle road. What road are you on? Because if your luke warm, then you sure as hell aren't good.
No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money. - Matthew 6:24

Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' – Matthew 22:37-39

If your neighbor is a prostitute, love them anyway.

'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD. - Leviticus 19:18

Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs. – Proverbs 10:12

We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. – 1 John 4:19-20

The only person you can judge is your own self, for you cannot change anyone by force. Show people love, and love will be received. If you as a christian judge others, you are hurting them. In hurting, you are not loving, and by not loving, you are doing WRONG. When your preacher tells you to be an example, be a pillar of LOVE.

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."
Matthew 7:1-5

"Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and
its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit."
Proverbs 12:33

ROM 5:12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and
death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned--

Greetings,

I agree with you God is Love! And I am not intolerant or unloving of you or most people choosing to live any particular lifestyle. Unless, they go around killing people or something...:-) But even God loves them!!!

Wow!

However, the danger in that book, is not the author nor his personal upbringing etc. It's that he claims these "answers" are from God and as a person with some apparent bible knowledge, you should not be surprised by my saying that the bible (nor God) does NOT agree with everyones lifestyle nor decisions. Yes, I do believe the bible is written by men carried along by the Holy Spirit, just as 2 Peter 1:21 says it is.

And YES, Jesus did indeed die for all people of all races, classes, religions etc. Hoping that they would then obey his commands and thus be saved, and have eternal life with God in heaven!

it is a beautiful and merciful plan and I am humbled by it everyday, and yet we can't just claim God says this & that without the scriptures actually backing that up.

Love,
your brother

Dear Speech

I have enjoyed your music for many years. However this post has annoyed me somewhat. I'll state right off that I'm an atheist but I have no problem at all with people of faith - whatever gets anyone through the day is fine by me as long as they're not harming anyone else. Unless, that is, when people of faith start making judgements about people who don't happen to believe the same things they do.

So. I gather God has a divine plan? But he also gave us freewill did he not? This is a contradiction. If people were born gay *or* choose to be gay (whichever, I believe people are born that way but for the sake of argument I'll say both) then why would that be a problem in God's eyes? Either they're part of his plan, or they're exercising their God given right of freewill. The same goes for people who choose not to be married. A popular answer to this of course would that these people are choosing to follow evil, a notion that I do not have any time for at all (and in which case would still be part of His divine plan, yes?). This is all very confusing.

I can see that you might have a problem with Neale's proclamations that he's spoken with God (I do too. I don't think he has because I don't think God exists! :) ), there are many who claim to have spoken with Him & they tend to ask for dollars in order for them to be "saved" - wouldn't your ire be better directed at those (you know who I mean)? However Neale seems to be espousing values of togetherness, positivity, inclusiveness, and a lack of judgement, condemnation, & superiority that the aforementioned do not - they promote the opposite. Are these not good traits? And ones that God/Jesus would approve of? And ones that you've promoted in your music?

I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts. I may have misinterpreted your post as I'm not clear what part of it is you speaking and which is quoted - if that's the case I apologise.

Best
Chris

Anonymous said...

Hi Chris,

Since you're interested in my thoughts, I'll be happy to share them with you. :-)

First off, thank you or supporting the music, that means a lot to me and my family!

This post is really only to people who believe in God or want to know God. I should have said that in the original post. (oops)
So you're an Atheist. It sure takes faith to be an Atheist. Faith that there absolutely is NO God! That's more faith than I have. ;-)

Anywhoo, God makes it clear that he gives free will and yet has a divine plan.
For those wanting the truth of our purpose, a relationship with Him and wanting eternal life, they have to obey His commands. That's the danger of this book. It deceives those who really want to know God. By claiming that those answers are really God's. When in fact the bible does make clear God's answers and this book is not in tune with that in some major cases!

By the way, I'm not condemning anyone! Who am I to do that? Just a sinner myself. I think many people have a MIS-UNDERSTANDING of Christianity and that we think we are better than someone else. Not at all! We actually see ourselves as worse than anyone else and in need of a savior and shepherd! And our gift of salvation comes only through faith & grace! Not through our perfection.

Anyway, thanks for writing in.

In my mind those are God's answers. A God that would want all to be happy regardless of choice or inclination. As long as they are not done out of selfishness or harm. I would love to know why God created us but I think this is one thing we will never know..it's a mystery. Trying to remind oureselves that we are a global culture and not divided but one is one thing I am sure God would want to be the greatest lesson.
I respect you and any parent's decision. It just struck a chord.

Right on, Speech.

Thanks for giving parents a heads up. In a word where there is so much available and so much being offered to our youth - parents and mentors just don't have the time to read everything. Getting insight from someone so invested in truth means everything and empowers all of us.
When I think of the music that has affected my life, like "Strange Fruit" by Sounds of Blackness or many of AD and your works...they have all hurt. They confronted me with the ugly specter of the ignorance, hate, brokenness, and sin in me. They never just said "do what makes you feel good baby” or “it's all good" – they hurt and call me to change.
I guess some people want a God who approves of everything they do and some people want a life without consequences. I understand that and I suppose why it is so tempting to make God in our image. Me? I know I am fallen and I know I am messed up and I need a savior.
It is remarkable that someone who doesn’t really believe to try and talk children out of their faith of their ancestors using what they think they want to hear as bait. I respect their right to write it but I am really grateful we still live in a country where I can read it first and then decide if these are values I want my children to digest.
People are crazy with their cries of intolerance. No one is calling for a book burning…that is ridiculous. Still, just because we aren’t banning or burning books, it doesn’t mean we want Mein Kampf on Reading Rainbow. You know?
Keep fighting the good fight Speech!

Thanks for sharing this info Speech. The passage about there being no right and wrong is especially troubling. Our kids are often bringing home these book order catalogs from school, which provide very little in the way of information about a given book beyond a picture of the cover. Compared to some of the obviously lousy offerings in those catalogs, the subject book would seem OK. However, as you pointed out in your GACC sermon on "The Secret" it doesn't take much misinfo to get one veered off of a spiritually sound course into potentially dangerous territory. Thanks for helping us to keep our children us from being "Washed Away" unwittingly.

With much love & sincere respect for all you do-

Hi Speech

Thanks for the reply - it does clear your viewpoint up, though obviously I don't relate to it.

I will say though that my atheism is borne out of not being at all convinced by the idea of religion. I'm much more convinced by evolution/the big bang etc for which there is *tangible* evidence - I don't see it in terms of "faith" at all. Granted there are holes in the theory as people of faith often point out, but science is in it's infancy and therefore doesn't know all the answers - yet. I'm much more inclined to believe the large amount of evidence there is though over whichever of the multitude of religions/gods/prophets etc that people have believed in throughout human history - the fact there has been so many weakens the argument for religion in my opinion. Which one's "right"?!?

Scientology for example is a relatively new religion about which Ive read a lot (they may be secretive but the cat's out of the bag about what they believe!). I can't believe a word of it but I find that what they do believe has just as much validation as any other religion. i mean no disrespect by saying this, but to me there's no difference in them.

I also don't personally feel the need to believe in a religion/god in order to have a decent moral code, many people of faith (and I don't include you in this on the basis of what you've said) feel exactly the opposite and would condemn and label as "sinners" those who don't. This is what annoys me about religion, in general, I'm afraid.

Good luck with the band.

Chris

Chris,

Thanks for writing in again. There is ample and Growing evidence that the bible and it's text is historical fact. So I say "faith" because we both have to believe in something. A Christian has to believe that the bible - it's historical stories, & predictions are fact. An Atheist has to believe that the theories, evidences, and moral standards of man is fact.

Both at times seem shaky. But time proves them either right or wrong. However we all die at a certain time, so maybe we will never know the facts of those matters.

I am more inclined to believe in GOD because he offers more of a prize at our death. The prize of heaven, eternal life and a chance to be with him forever. That encourages me! And gives me a eternal motivation and hope.

I also sent a message to Yolanda at your Vagabond productions. I have many friends who love and live by the bible. They are affliciated with different branches of the christian religion. As of have friends of many different religions. I myself have serveral religous affiliations.
In our interactions we focus on finding things we can agree on that promotes peaceful community while allowing diversity in thinking as well as culture.
We agree to disagree on more than one topic. Many of these topics are subject to individuals interpritations of text, lifestyle choices, and meanings behind traditions.
What I experienced in your bulletin "Beware of this book" bulletin was a good point, punctuated by what I perceived as a specific attack on a group of people.
To "Be Aware" right now is stellar advice. Lot's of information and ideas are going around and it's important to be mindful of different philosphies, insights, and ideas.
The bottom line is that I feel like we can put messages out without making people who think differently wrong.
I'm not sure if I'm communicating this clearly.
I have always appreciated and enjoyed the community and higher vibebration of Arrested Developement as a musical group.
When I read your bulletin it felt like a hate letter and my energy dropped. This left me with a feeling of disappointment. To the level that I felt compelled to investigate how deep seeded the sentiments of this bulletin are for the musical group as a whole.
You may be completely correct AND this way does not feel good to me.
Much respect, thank you for taking the time to respond to my inquery.

Hey Speech,
I really get tired of people insinuating that THEY know what God wants. Humility is sorely lacking in Christianity. That opinion spans to both ends of the spectrum. The guy maybe should have had a different theme. Or maybe not, maybe he really thinks God spoke to him to write these books. All I know is that thousands of years of interpretations and strong editing of the Bible have made people view it's teachings in a number of ways. Like many religious books, the Bible is an example of ideas of how we should live our lives. So, much is left up to man for his interpretation. Hence, the original format isn't really there anymore and what we are left with could take several readings and life times to understand. Granted you have the ten commandments that address those subjects that where described in the examples given. However, wasn't it a man, Mosses, who spoke to God and brought them down from a mountain to teach his disciples? Who are we to say the same thing hasn't happened
again? God works in mysterious ways doesn't he? Maybe he's trying to update his work for the minds of this time. That's the beauty of choice. The message from your mothers friend had a blatant overtone of fear and disgust in it. Warning parents to hide their children's eye's from such teachings that only the devil can inspire. Parents will make up their own minds on this, obviously. I just hate seeing so much judgment passed on something that isn't really a big issue. I guess when it comes down to it people worship God, Buddha, Allah etc. in many different ways. I would like to see a little respect extended to people who have different views vs. them being crucified. Anyway thanks for getting me fired up. I like it when people make me think. Maybe that's what this author was trying to do. Evoke debate between kids and parents on such issues.

Speech, I've been listening to you for years and I knew that you were psuedo-christian based in your views & beliefs but I also thought you were beyond the mind prison that they refer to as the "word of God". Humans wrote and rewrote and translated and retranslated those words all designed to keep your people, OUR people under the thumb of religiuos docterine and seperated from the source of all that is, our great Mother Gaia. Nealle D. Walsch is a good and charitable man doing his best to improve the situation for all. Judge not harshly, brother. His teachings come from a place of Love, which is much more than can be said for the Christian churchs of our time, which is Gaia's Time. Focus more on being a helper than a leader. Children play with Earth, remember? That's the best message you could be teaching at this time for that is the "new" word of the creator. If we cannot even honor and respect His creation, how can we ever claim to love, honor, and respect him. Just consider these words before you reject them out of hand because of some preconceived notion. Remember that all life is change and growth, not the stagnation that organized religion tends to create. I love you, brother, and you've been doing a good job but it seems to me that you could serve God better by speeking your own truth instead of attempting to step on someone elses. Neale's message is a good stepping stone to the Ultimate Truth which transends the Bible more than you can imagine at this time. Yes, Christ is still coming (already here really) but its going to be unlike anything anyone mired down in Biblical teachings could ever conceive. Please just think outside that box for a momment without fear or panic. Remember, God wants you to question authority, even that which you consider to be his, else how can we be certain it is God that is the source of that message and authority. All Thanks To Creation And Creator, LOVE PEACE AND ABUNDANCE-RAVEN DANCING

Hey,
While I appreciate the voice you bring to your lyrics and general cause for justice, I have to agree to disagree on this one. Conversations with God is a book centered around spiritual thought. It is more in line with the Eastern way of thinking in Buddhism and Hinduism, and the core focus is spirituality. There are thousands of paths to awakening to Truth, all bringing about different experiences. When the Bible says Judge not less ye be judged it means that if you judge another, you are judging yourself. We are all one my friend. The peace you find when you let go of judgment entirely is beyond reproach and can not be put into words. Forgiveness is extremely important until you awaken, and realize there's nothing to forgive at all. For everyone is perfect in their true Self. That is how Jesus saw everyone and that is why he was able to do what he did. Perfect love casts out fear entirely.
I will you the best in every respect..
In Truth,

Chris

Speech, I have been a huge fan of you and Arrested Development for a long time. Your music inspired me and helped me get through tough times, especially in junior high and high school, and I still love your music to this day. But I don't understand your remarks regarding the lesbian in this post. You've always struck me as someone who is tremendously open-minded, accepting of differences, and positive. Why should this girl be ashamed of being a lesbian? I see no reason to disbelieve someone when they feel that they were born that way. In a world where gays are heavily discriminated against, why would approx. 10% of the population choose to live that way?

I'll be honest, I've meant to write you for a long time to let you know how influential you have been to me and in opening my mind to many of the things going on in the world, particularly African-American issues, so I'm a little disappointed to see your intolerance in this matter and that this is what it has taken for me to write you.

Respectfully,

Jeremy M.

Ive always been a HUGE fan of your music... solo and with AD.

Ive always thought you and AD were quite the open minded group of people. I did not know that you are not tolerant of the gay and lesbian community. Or am I wrong? Thats what I got from the blog... I agree... the book is a pile of crap, but we do need to have diversity and tolerance. No?

Just my 2 cents... Anthony

Thank you so much for you support of the music. My family and I really appreciate it! Again, thanks very much!
I hope you will go to my previous responses in this blog to better understand my position on this issue.

Dear Speech,
This book is an amazingly well written book, and maybe you should learn a little more about Neale Donald Walsh's story before judging him. He went from homelessness to helpfulness. He has helped millions of people come to know peace and happiness with his words--YOU of all people should understand that. He has wonderful messages, and I am completely shocked to learn that you are against celebrating differences, and would like to discourage teenagers from being exactly who they are in very healthy ways. I am COMPLETELY DISGUSTED with this bulletin. I have loved your music and listened for YEARS now--I saw you at Lollapalooza in 1992! I have loved YOUR messages in your music. Now I encounter a complete contradiction. What ever happened to "Fishing for Religion"??!!!!!!! I am extremely saddened and hope you can open your mind a little more before you broadly discourage something which was intended for good. Peace to you and good luck getting clear.

Hello Speech,
I checked out the blog. I just want to say thank you for taking the time to go one on one with us and for inspiring debate. It's so important that we all, with all our differences, get together and talk. I know you are a tolerant man, and I respect your opinion, even if I disagree with it. Sorry if I offended you by saying I was disappointed in you. That was unfair. Look forward to chatting with you again. Peace.

Hello,
Though your comments are understandable coming from a Christian/Bible-based perspective, I have my doubts in the logic behind warning people to beware of a book that holistically, spiritually, and religiously carries a positive message - a message that says we can live the ideal lifestyle that we dream of.

I understand that you're looking out for the kids that are highly impressionable, highly influenced by any stimulus. I also understand that you and your piers most likely have children that can order the books through their respective schools, but what happened to letting children decide for themselves, to carve out their own story? On that note, where has the conversation gone, the debate about the most beautiful of all books in history but also the most dangerous?

The CWG book series urges everyone to find their own experience, to test out the ideas presented. The religious dogma blindly eaten up by the masses based on an outdated book has caused much trouble in the world and continues to because people have ignored their own experience. CWG also stands alone from all religious texts because it carries no "do's" or "don'ts". It carries a message that urgently asks simply whether something works or does not work. Does it work to spread fear about something that is in our hands to decide whether it works or doesn't work?

I have much respect for Arrested Development. This fear-based tirade makes me wonder, though, whether the lyrics behind "Fishin' for Religion" still have meaning or merit. What happened to the objective perspective? What happened to being against preaching? Don't our children deserve encouragement to test their parents ideas, to test our own beliefs to see if they fit them?

Warm Regards,

"but isn't that playing into the very narrow mindedness you are saying you are against?"

I totally love this. Yeap, that's completely want I did. Projected my issues of what's important right into the matter. It was my knee jerk reaction.
I will go to your blog under my personal profile as this communication is going through a channel that represents a group of people.
I can see that perhaps this is a reminder to myself to be more mindful in this area now.
In all fairness, I asked Yolanda for clarity if you were in fact speaking for the group. I will take this as her reply.
As I said, I'll click on the link and read further. I'm pretty sure I'll have a comment :> It will be the one from the "Monkey Goddess".
In the meantime I will sit with my knee jerk reaction and see if I can develop a new feeling around this.
By the way, thank you for showing up and standing with your words. I LOVE that we all have different ideas of things AND I'm reminded that sometimes things can feel prickly when we first bump up against them.

Hey Speech,
I love the fact that you care so deeply for our children and for your fans. Your spirituality is what draws me to your music and I could tell when I met you that you are a good soul. I was a little bit taken aback by this particular blog, though. I definitely believe in God and that Jesus lived and extraordinary life 2000 years ago and taught the world some very important lessons. I have studied various religions and religious texts over the past decade and have found many inconsistancies in the Bible itself and for good reason, since it is an oral history passed down over thousands of years and then copied and recopied over the past 1500 or so years. Many political figures have added and deleted items from it and shaped it to advance their agendas. I think that when we get into saying that the Bible is the final word, we have to look at all of these issues and take a step back and see what is logical. Do we really believe that the punishment for a rapist should be to marry his victim, as it states in the old testament? Does the Bible ever say anything about lesbians or women in general, for that matter? To me, it is benificial to look at the life of Jesus and attempt to exemplify what he did... He healed through forgiveness, he turned the other cheak through forgiveness, he asked God to forgive those that crucified him. Jesus was all about forgiveness and non-judgement. I believe also that the holy spirit does talk to us when we listen and it is very well possible that Mr. Walsh was hearing that voice when he wrote his books. I don't know, but I do know that it would be disingenuous for me to say that he is definitely lying and that the devil made him do it. Again, I think that it is important to scrutinize what books, tv, and other media are saying and I also think it is important to scrutinize all ancient religious texts to find the commonalities, the falsehoods and hopefully the truth. You rock, man... stay up.

peace,
Josh D.

Josh, I hear you. And thanks for writing in. But it would be hard for me to have a constructive dialog on this issue, if you are convinced that the bible has been tampered with so that it cannot be "the final word". I DO believe that the bible is absolutely perfect and God has Disabled anyone to distort His word substantially.

I always find it interesting when the same people who think that the bible is NOT to be followed literally will follow the passages in it, that fit THEIR personal ideology.

I think the thing that trips people up about God & the Holy bible, is that...God is a real entity! He has thoughts, perspectives, that are meant for us and are found in the Bible. Everyone wants Him to be what they want Him to be and makes us upset when HE doesn't fit our view. (I used to be in the same boat, so I understand)

We may disagree with certain passages (I know I have), but God is still God, and we can't make up another God to fit our understanding of what HE should be. We just have to struggle with what HE meant by certain passages until we better understand.

Hey Josh, I can't make another Josh to fit my ideal of what Josh should be. You are who you are. Well, God is who He is! And Yes, he talks about homosexuality, women, and many other things. All of this helps us to understand better who HE is.

I hope you will further read the Bible, and if you ever have questions, I'd be glad to help.

Hey Speech,
Well put. I dig your faith, man. I understand what you are saying about how each person puts his own ideas of what God is into the mix and that God is what He is, period. Sometimes, so-called "knowledge" can complicate things and distract us from something that can be so simple. At times I wish that I had not learned all of this historical data about the creation of the Bible, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Gospel of Thomas, etc. so that I could just believe, unwaiverd, in the authenticity of every word. Luckily, I have patience and a true desire to follow God's plan and I am sure that those characteristics will point me in the direction toward a more perfect faith. I appreciate your words. May God continue to bless you and speak his love through you.

peace,
Josh D.

Josh,
The Gospel of Thomas has absolutely nothing to do with the creation of the Bible. It is a pseudepigraphal book written about 150 years after the Bible was already completed and the Dead Sea Scrolls proved just how accurate and preserved our sacred scriptures really are!

I fail to understand how, in one blog, you could be pushing "freedom for all Americans" (lady pepper sprayed at gathering) and yet turn around in another and "warn" people about a book. Are you also for censorship of the important (but oftentimes gory) messages in rap music? Why not just go back to the Dark Ages and start burning books again?

Just because something doesn't jibe with your beliefs, which have more to do with upholding tradition than with anything the ORIGINAL HEBREW Bible says, doesn't mean others should be "warned" about a book. If the message of the book were reversed and the author was condemning lesbians, gays, people living together before marriage, etc., under the guise of "communicating" with God, you'd likely have no problem with it and would probably even praise him for the book. The problem isn't that you doubt that this man was divinely inspired, it's that he was inspired in a way that doesn't uphold the typical "Christian" prejudices that continue to do damage to so many of us who don't fit into your little box of right vs. wrong to this day in 2008.

(Not that it matters, but I AM a Christian...just not one who feels the need to project hatred and intolerance on others in the name of the Lord. Not saying that any of you are either: only YOU can know what kind of person you truly are. As Christians, I think it's time to ask ourselves the question: What Would Jesus REALLY Do? Because I SERIOUSLY doubt he'd go around trying to convert people to His personal beliefs, labeling certain lifestyles as "wrong" when they don't hurt anyone else, and "warning" people about a piece of literature. Judge not--this book is nothing to fear...unless, of course, you're not fully grounded in your own beliefs.)

God bless.

Hi Tracii,

Is it really censorship, when in the article in question it suggest people read it for themselves if they are in question about the content. AND the article is written for those who believe in God or in search of God. There is no burning of books here, don't be an extremist. Words are there for a reason, no need to add to them! The danger of this book is claiming that it is from GOD! I hope you take some time to read some of my other posts on this issue.

And about censoring Rap music, (Since I am a rapper), I have to from my children. But not from adults.

However today there is censorship going on constantly but it's of message oriented hip hop. It seems that radio, video don't want to hear that right now. (Bad for peoples minds i guess) (Sarcasm) :-)

You said you are a Christian, well true Christians (believe it or not), DO follow that little Hebrew book translated into various languages called THE BIBLE. You should try it some more, and learn exactly what Jesus would do. It's not hard to discover, nor too complex to understand.

Thanks for writing in,

brother

Speech,
Ive been trying to understand something in this post for a couple days now, and Ive decided to just ask you since I know you can handle a little disagreement respectfully!!
If God is unconditional love, why wouldnt he agree with homosexuality the way he agrees with heterosexuality? A person is a person regardless of biological sex or gender, and Im confused as to how God can love unconditionally and judge at the same time.
I also dont understand why it is that God must believe in and punish sin. I thought he was compassionate and understanding. If I am capable of love and forgiveness, and Im merely a mortal, why wouldnt God (who is obviously far more perfect than I can ever be) be capable of the same thing? I dont necessarily disagree with your position, I just dont feel I understand it clearly.

I personally would love to thank you Speech for writing this one. Mostly because our children are under attack. Spiritually we are under attack! The Word of God is something not to be taking lightly! It has plenty to learn from! the fact is that we as a people has strayed away from God and have let the world tell us what to do as far as our children! we need to get back into the Word and deal with this mess we have now! because our children are going to have to deal with it if we don't!

The book I have never read because I am very particular to what I read and put in my mind because the devil gets into the mind! So I'm very careful of the people I have around me, the things I read, even who prepares my food! Because it's very personal.
Things have been going on in this world for sometime now and it gets worse and worse! welcome and accept things that are not of God into your life, your mind changes then your heart changes! But when you welcome that with a child that's not only taking you away from God but taking that child also! children are innocent! Who are we to take god away from them and put all these other things in their mind!
My mother told me and my brothers that we don't belong to her. now this can confuse a child. She told us that we belong to God and that she was a teacher in life for us to learn from! She said that one of the jobs a parent is supposed to do is to teach the children about God and show them the way! Because if she didn't she would get in trouble with God! So I truly do believe that the children are under attack and those that teach the children!

Once again thanks and kudos to you Speech!
Grace and Peace
God bless!

The true opium of the people isn't religion, it's the belief that our lives here carry no consequences in the life beyond... the belief that we can act anyway we please because there is no ultimate authority on issues of morality. That's the danger of this book.

DEAREST SPEECH!!

I am a huge fan of your music. If you go on Itunes i wrote a very nice review of your Hoopla Album. My friends and I have had very wonderful moments jamming to that album. Hoopla had so many songs that were so universal. All were welcome and wholeheartedly welcomed. The groove was like God or the Spirit. Ever present, ever welcoming. So thats why it I am literally shocked after reading your comment with its FOX like title "Beware of this BOOK" I am not a Christian and I have no intention to ever be one yet I feel and I know that I am a creation of the Creator. It is my belief therefore I know. I work hard. I spread love whenever I can. I love my family, have best friends since i was a toddler, smile to strangers, i vote, i volunteer in Africa and Central America, get the vote out for Obama, I buy Speech albums, and i even like to show a little extra love to people of the same sex. :-) I feel so good as a human being. I feel that God is urging me in every step i make in life. I feel that none, I repeat, NONE of the things that i do as a loving human being has ever really been a decision. This is my nature. This is who i am. this is how i was created. And after reading what you wrote and even in how you are responding to these comments i get a sense that you have this "i know better" attitude.

I'm sure you know of the controversy behind this book we call The Bible, with debates of who wrote it, when it was written, what was chosen to be included and vice versa what was not chosen to be included... all of that..."the controversy" Not to mention the million ways people have used the Bible to support conflicting messages. One says Bible says no war. the other says Bible says to fulfill God's wrath. I don't know the exact lines but i hope you get what i mean. ANYHOO, i just don't see how this controversial book written by who knows who can control the mind(it seems) of such a talented and aware man. Now I don't want to judge you. You believe what you want but please do not use your "chosen" book as the only way. Do not use your "chosen" book to believe that it is the only voice of God. That thought alone you have created enemies. that thought alone immediately in my mind makes me feel like you do not want to welcome me. that you (speech) and me (djlaloc) will never be brothers... at least in your mind n heart. but in my world i would love you deep inside. your a good man, you make me laugh, you help me out when needed, you fight against our unfair government, you take care of your family, and i could care less who gets your mojo going. I will be with you till the end... my brother. But it troubles me to think that because of the book you like to believe in (in a certain way mind you) that we will never be brothers? am i getting you wrong? only because i have a boyfriend who i love, and mind you he is also a good man, a wonderful son, brother, good worker, volunteer, fighter for justice... only because i love this man, i am not your brother? for some reason i just thought of a scene from a movie not made yet. it stars a man like yourself that joins the military. the main character starts boot camp and befriends some of the guys with his "Christian" beliefs. Also he notices one guy in the boot camp that to him seems a little "flaky" jejeje a little "pink" rather than "blue" lol someone who has made "a wrong decision", then later in the movie once his troop is in battle, the main character gets wounded. and his original buddies are rightfully scared and do not attempt to help him escape. but the one soldier, the one "making the wrong decision" (i love my quotes lol), with his God given courage, goes out of his way to pick the main character up and bring him to safe grounds ala Forrest Gump. I wonder now what would happen in the movie? Would the main character have a realization? I think so. Anyways i got to get going. Thanks for speaking your mind but that's what you do, your SPEECH!!!! When's the new album coming out? Much love...

I'm also a little concerned. I am disappointed in what seems like intolerance. I thought that tolerance would be bestowed in all areas. Noone really knows if there is a god, and why do they call it a "him" I think people need to stop worrying about trivial things and realize that love should be the way whether your gay, straight, crooked, ethnic or not. By the way in the biological kingdom in general there are such things as asexual, hermaphrodite and a bunch of other things (I think even one species of fish changes sex to allow for its species survival). Considering that humans fall within this biological kingdom and the only thing keeping us from being the same gender or sex is a y chromosome, and some extra testosterone. You know they say natures first intention or the path of least resistance is to make a female xx. So anyway why don't people practice tolerance and love in all areas. In my opinion if god judges and kills people off by a personal whim and limited tolerance, and instills fear in people that isn't a good example or role model. also if people want to believe in god then just remember that based on your assumptions its gods fault for making a faulty human and therefore cannot pass judgment on something that is its own fault. Just like you can't blame a downs syndrome kid for being born with altered genetics. The intention of a lot of people is to make something "ideal", but when it fails to meet the preconceived self satisfying desire then they are ready to blame, shun, or be intolerant. People are faulted, but they have a brain and should know that life is too short to judge and hate and go to war over insignificant superficial things. Lets all get a long and put religious judgments at home.

Anonymous said...

faulty men, and I do empasize
MEN wrote the book. Those same error laden men may have been created by a fallible "god figure". How is it that people believe that "god" is so perfect. Obviously not the plan didn't turn out as originally conceived. i think religion is restrictive, judgmental and also not very nice towards women either. Nowadays its not about propogating the human species. We are supposed to be more intelligent and evolved. Look at how screwed up heterosexual couples are. Look at how screwed up a lot of humans are. Humans beings are defective by nature-whether it was a god or not that created us. We will never be perfect b/c nothing is perfect and to attempt to judge one based on that impossibility is ludicrous. People should live kindly and love each other, but instead the human race continues on the crash course like a bunch of careless, hating parasites.

Anonymous said...

Don't forget that men and women basically have similar hormones. Yeah they express themselves differently to help propogate the species, but just don't forget that we are like a lot of creatures out there, subject to the moon cycle if you're a woman, etc etc. Just because we can think and write, talk, manipulate, and control each other doesn't change the fact that we are biological creatures. I wonder if "god" judges when fish change genders? Human beings are so pompous and arrogant and that is why the other "lesser" creatures will survive when we blow each other up over our insignificant differences.

WHEN two female gobi fish meet in a corner of a coral reef, the chances are that one will turn into a male so the two can mate. What's more, the male fish can revert back to a female-although not so easily, say scientists in Australia.

Some fish opt for a sex change when they meet a fish of the same sex. For the slow-moving gobi fish, Gobiodon histrio, this can be a good strategy, as a long search for a mate of the opposite sex puts them at the mercy of predators. "They are not good swimmers," says Philip Munday at the James Cook University of North Queensland in Townsville.

Japanese researchers had shown that when gobi fish were confined in an aquarium, some male fish that had started life as female could even be made to swap back. Munday and his colleagues wanted to know if such multiple reversals occurred in the wild, and if so, how often. To find out, they injected microscopic electronic tags into a group of female gobies and male gobies that had originally been females. They placed them 4 metres apart in coral colonies in the Great Barrier Reef.

Seven female-female pairs established themselves during the month-long experiment. In six of them, a female became male. "They readily change sex if you get two of them together," says Munday. However, in seven male-male couples, only two fish changed sex, the scientists will report in a future issue of Behavioural Ecology and Sociobiology.

"There must be different costs to changing sex in each direction," Munday concludes. It may be more costly physiologically to turn off the male reproductive system and get eggs ready to go again, he speculates. Alternatively, it may be easier for a male than a female to find a mate of the opposite sex, without having to change sex.

Greetings! I hope you have looked at some of my previous responses to people. Cuz a lot of these suggestions that we don't know who God is, etc. Are the reason I put up a warning about THIS BOOK. My warning is on the premise that God is real! HE is known from the bible and the bible ONLY! And any book that claims to be speaking from God's perspective HAS to be in agreement with what God says in the bible! And that is NOT the case in this book in question.

All the research about women and men hormones is respected and noted. Science on Fish and other creatures is noted as well. However, note that we are not them. We are humans and God has stated specific things about us, and not those other creatures when it comes to sexuality! (all from the bible)

GOD says homosexuality is a SIN! (Among many other things that are sins as well) So whether the person was born that way or not, (we don't really know) But for argument sake, let's say they were... (They're a babies born with addiction to drugs) They have the extra trial of getting rid of their addiction, as they grow. Because addiction is a sin as well.

We ALL have trials that we must overcome in order to be righteous in God's sight. Homosexuality is no different than the many other trials.

The great news is that the bible states how God helps us through these trials, strengthens us and protects us from things that we CANNOT HANDLE.

I think many peoples problem, is really with the bible itself. And what role it plays as the inerrant WORD OF GOD in a believers life.

i would bet (oops thats a sin too...sorry had to put some humor in there)...i would bet that if you wrote a song based on this particular belief you would have so many of the people that truly are moved by your music be equally appalled by this statement. you have truly offended me. i hope God shows you more light. To imply the love i feel for my boyfriend is equivalent to a baby taking narcotic drugs because they were born that way is extremely insulting. Again your belief in God somehow has been communicated in such a judgmental and negative way. Precisely why I have not been able to get into the Christian faith.

Hi,

My intent is not to offend anyone. Although I know that is sometimes a part of having constructive dialog. I am not intolerant of Gays. This book is destructive SIMPLY BECAUSE it claims to be GOD speaking answers, and GOD has already spoken.

If one disagrees with Christianity, Fine. But then don't claim GOD says believes things, just say YOU say believe these various things.

God is LOVE, (like our mom or dad is Love - but even more so) and Yet our parents because they LOVE us say things to us that we don't always agree with.

The difference between parents and God is that, God is right, parents can be wrong.

And by the way, I really appreciate your writing in, AND your support of the music.

Love, your brother

After reading this bulletin from you, I was led to wonder why you would endorse Obama. Women's right to choose? C'mon. Choose what? What about the unborn women's right to choose to live? Speech, I have long supported you as an artist since the 90's, but I can't go with you the Obama route. Kest Rocks

Greetings Kest Rocks,

I don't vote because of one issue only. I vote PROUDLY for Obama, because #1.) I am surrounded by friends and neighbors who are hurting deeply from this administrations policies! Obama is about helping 95 percent of the nation cut taxes. He's about more fair laws that will help keep people out of the prison systems, he will help mend the Horrible relationships and reputation we have throughout the world. (I travel a Lot)
I understand peoples passion on stopping abortions. It's obviously a divisive issue to say the least. (Meaning it divides the country every election) Which honestly makes me upset! Because basically every Republican promises the results you are looking for on this issue, but after 8 years of BUSH, (A republican) where are we with it?

Does not all the deaths here and abroad from this unnecessary war mean anything to you?
All the unfair tax laws that penalize the poor and excuse the rich, does that fair fine in your morality test?

Corporations making billions off of predatory loans, forcing average hard working Americans to lose homes, many times under that stress, wrecking marriages, hurting children! Does all of that fit fine with you?

Education being unfair and unbalanced, poor kids destined to cyclical poverty and hopelessness, is that fine by your pro-life friends seemingly heightened morality!

Pro-gun stances even (machine guns and criminal assault rifles) are a Repubulican hot button issue! In my community, these guns are falling into the hands of children and older dummy's that are literally blowing each other up on the city streets, but that issue to Pro-lifers is not enough to make their moral meters perk up at all! Thus they protect the right to have these types of guns, knowing that they are supplied and sold to inner city gang members and drug dealers!

I have heard some call all ANY ISSUE that's not abortion simply dust in the eye of America and the abortion issue is the only plank in the eye of America. I think it's because Pro-lifers have become so narrow sighted in the injustices of this world, they they have also become blinded by their own cause!

And I am a Christian, I am fine with stopping abortions. I hate them!

However, this ONE issue tends to ignite people to vote for an other wise horrible candidate, that supports literally 90% of the Bush policies! After he is elected, (if he is) let's see what he is actually able to do to help your one cause. If he doesn't do it, then shame on Americans, who have been bamboozled yet once again, by the ole "Abortion issue".

You continue to be a bright light and inspiration in my life. A bright star in a constellation of beautiful souls. Among those stars is Christ.

I am a Unitarian Universalist. Some months ago a man went into a UU church and shot it up, in the middle of a children's play. I believe one man died at the scene, eight were injured and one of the injured died later. This man's plan was to keep shooting until he nearly emptied his clips then kill himself. He assumed that pacifists were cowards so no one would oppose him.

What actually happened was one man: Greg McKendry (he was serving as an usher) sacrificed his life walking in the path of his shots and others rushed him and took the gun from him and delivered him to justice. Then the discussion in the church centered around what drove this man to do so heinous a thing.

While the surrounding community talked about how the Unitarians brought this calamity on themselves by supporting gay rights and the like (blaming the victim), the Unitarians had already forgiven the sin and were addressing their own healing and what social action to take to minister to the community.

The center of the UU church is the idea of DEEDS NOT CREEDS. We do not take any set of religious doctrine to be authoritative. We remain open to all and try to draw from as many sources as possible. You will hear about Christ, Buddha, Muhammad, last Sunday a poem by Tagore was read from the pulpit. The first time I visited the Church the congregation sang a blues (Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child).

I can agree with you that someone saying God told me not to judge right from wrong is very dangerous. There is a right and a wrong. But there are many paths to discerning the truths of this world. I just wanted to share our perspective on this question of truth and tolerance.

Thank you for sharing your very beautiful self with the rest of us and may God continue to Bless you Brother!

Peace,
H

Hi Speech!
Wow, I have read bits and pieces of this book and at the time, it spoke to me. God's love touches everyone differently. This book was a very small stepping stone towards God in the beginning of my journey. When I read this book, I thought if they are talking to God, I need to be talking to God. Through my curiousity I later went to the Bible. Every bit of knowledge can lead you in the right direction. It is not good to judge people who are seeking God. No One picks up this book because they don't want to know him.(hence the title) It is a book that can touch anyone where they are at spiritually. Not everyone gets how wonderful Jesus is but through his grace and love they will find him.
Take Care!

Do believe in prophets? I believe many musicians, artists, and writers are prophets. Think of all the wonderful lyrics of Bob Marley. Does that mean you have to be Rastafarian just because you listen to him? NO way! Haile Selassie is not my God. I do love the word-conscious and positive music I hear. Had musical influences not been in my life, my jouney could have been different. I listened to Arrested Development when I was a little girl. You helped fine tune my need for honest music and my compassion for all people. If I hadn't listened, my heart may not have found Jesus or the Bible. Because the music lifts me up...I yearn for the goodness God provides.

Maybe, just maybe, the book Conversations with God, speaks to the people who need to be reminded to talk to him. No matter where they are at..(good,bad,broken, lost )...I just hope the people who read the books get the positves instead of the negatives out of it. If they pick up a book that says Conversations with God they are seekers of his love. They don't have any ill intentions. Pray for them!
Peace,
Lacey
